~Apple Crisp~

When you live in Apple country....
this is what you make!

Apple Crisp

8-9 c apples
1 c sugar
2T flour
******
1c   melted butter
2 c   quick oats
1 1/2 c    flour
3/4 c  b. sugar
3/4 c    sugar

350*  9x13 pan
Toss first 3 ingred. together and put in 9x13
Mix remaining 5 ingred together. Put on top of apples
Bake 40-45 min.

**  I don't measure the apples~I just peel & put in a 9x13 till it is almost full.  Then toss the sugar & flour over the top and toss in the pan (no need to dirty measuring cups and bowls..=))

**I use a apple peeler/core/slicer (invaluable!!!!)..so if you hand cut them ..cook time may very b/c of thickness??

**I made it Gluten Free by changing the oats & flour

25 Years!

This has been 25 years in the waiting!
I have wanted new carpeting in our living room ever since we moved in 25 years ago!
The day finally came 1 1/2 weeks ago!
I know, everyone else is ripping out their carpet and putting in wood flooring but it always seems cold to me....I like carpeting!!
Really, to re-doing the wood floors it would have been beautiful but we would have had to practically move out and do the whole house..as the wood runs through the whole house!  Not very practical!
So here is the room already to get a new look!
I was forced to clean out the front closet and misc other areas where carpet was laid!  Force is good!

 ....making significant progress!
done!!!
I couldn't be more thrilled with the over all price, installation and carpet!
We had Chris from Kent City Flooring put it in...who knew there was a Kent City Flooring...lol!

~~And like all projects..one thing leads to another~~
and while we had everything tore up...I decided I wanted/needed a new piece of furniture for under the TV...the old one we had was a particle board thing..functional but not real pretty to look at!
I looked on Craigslist and everything was upwards of $200+!
Last Monday I stopped in to JT's (aka the Junk Store) and found this gem! Just what we needed.
Steve did  put new hardware on it.  But it was only $50! YES!
I put this in the WIN column!
It was a pretty awesome day for me!!  Ranks right up there with my marriage and birth of my kids!

Cali. ~Part 4

My last and final post from our CA trip...=(!!
On Friday we went to Monterey Bay which is well known for their Aquarium.
It was a another beautiful day! This is about a 2 hour drive south of my sisters house. We enjoyed looking at all the creatures...took a lunch break at Bubba Gump and was able to met Sara (my cousin Denise's daughter), Audrey and her MIL...then we went back to the Aquarium to finish up.
Here are some pictures for you to view..they are kind of self explanatory.....and we all know you just want to see the pictures...
My favorite ...Sea Otters...so cute!

Having Lunch!

Calamari....for the first time...kind of like eating a rubber band!
View from the restaurant

back to the Aquarium....

Julie & I being silly!

Tod looking for a mermaid....
Dad & Julie

Tod, Julie, Dad & Linda
touching slimy creatures!

Highway 1!
I kept trying to get a pictures of a sign as we flew down the highway..this was the best I could do from the back seat!

Saturday morning getting ready to leave...we had to take the rental car back and find our gate at SFO so we left around 9....
Tod & Julie seeing us off...
Good~bye CA..we had a wonderful time visiting you!
More than visiting CA we got to visit family that is near and dear to us!  We hold these people close to our hearts!  It was so fun to witness a wedding, vacation at their house, meet their friends, see their house, reconnect with far away family...and see some sites!  We will hold these memories and fun times in our hearts and minds for many years to come!  Tod & Julie a huge THANK YOU for being such awesome hosts!  We had an amazing time!

Cali.~Part 3

Part 3
Next Stop!....San Francisco CA
on Thursday we headed to some tourists spots!
First stop Golden Gate Bridge!
I'm pretty sure I've been over the bridge before but I don't recall being at this park.  Maybe I was but I can't remember it!
Aren't we looking good as tourists!
We got a great day to see the bridge..usually it's foggy and hard to get a great view...look at that view!!
San Francisco in the background
Alcatraz!
We did not go there this time..as that takes a day all in itself...I've already been over there 2 times on previous trips!

We left and headed to Lombard Street!
::{The crookedest street in the world}::
A 1 block long street with 8 hair pin switch backs.
Tod offered to let me drive but I declined!
it's hard to get a good picture..we needed to be in one of those apartments!
it was born out of necessity in order to reduce the hill's natural 27% grade, which was too steep for most vehicles.

this is the view from the bottom of the hill...still quite an incline!  Good think they don't have snow and ice!
What is San Fran with out cable cars....when you think of San Francisco, that is one of the 1st things you think of when think of this city!  We did not ride as the line was 1 hour long and the ride was 1 hour + the waiting on the other end!!  So we just had an photo op!
...and then we headed to Ghirardelli Square!!  Good choice, I know!!  Oh the smell of chocolate!  and free samples!  I'll take one of everything!

don't ya just want to reach out and stick your finger on that roller???  I did!  (want to..that is!!!)
California's finest at work!  This dude was crossing the road and Tod wiped out his camera and snapped this picture of this talented young man!  He must have a flat head!
and then Fishermans Wharf!  The fun never ended that day!
there must be 20+ floating docks that these Sea Lions call home!  Most of them are just sun bathing..but there are always a few rowdies in every group..and these 2 were entertaining the crowds!  They bark at each other, shove each other around and eventually push each other off..kind of like King on the Mountain!

Pier 39
we would liken this to Mackinac Island...small shops, trinket stores & street performers... all long a pier

Julie spotted this Rickshaw and thought this would be fun way to get to our next destination...AT&T park!
So Dad, Linda & myself hopped aboard and this poor guy pulled us about a mile.  It was such a fun ride and one we will be sure to remember for a long time!  And by the way...those guys go through red lights and weave between cars/trucks.  This guy told us this was his full time job..he's been doing it for 2 years...he owns his bike and has to get a permit from the city to be a rickshaw driver.  Fun fact..he said he pulled his dad up the back side of Lombard St...that pretty IMPRESSIVE!
all the benefits of bike riding without the work!!
the park!

Dad & Linda
waiting for Tod & Julie to meet us at the front of the stadium.
Dad wanted a picture with Willie Mays
Unfortunately, the Giants lost but we had fun and it was a beautiful night in San Francisco!
We enjoyed the Kiss Cam, singing Don't Stop Believing and garlic fries!
Prior to leaving, Julie was gathering up clothes for us to wear at the game..she said it gets cold there!
She was getting out gloves...I didn't know people that live in CA have gloves?  She said the last game she was at they had to bundle up!  Needless to say...it was a beautiful night and the "bay" didn't blow it's cool breeze at us!  But we are MI people...we are a little stouter than most!
San Francisco you didn't disappoint!  Thank you for your beautiful weather and enjoyable sights!!
