This is my Hip Story...if you care to know...if not, move along...lol
History....
In Early 2015 I took an awkward tumble ..which resulted in pain in my right hip. After Dr visits, anti-inflammatories, Chiropractic visits, Massages... nothing helped so in late 2015 I had an MRI of my right hip.
The results showed a Labral Tear
(The acetabular labrum is a fibrous rim of cartilage around the hip socket that is important in normal function of the hip. It helps keep the head of the femur (thigh bone) inside the acetabulum (hip socket). It provides stability to the joint.)
How it felt...
(Some people experience no pain from a labral tear but most will feel pain or ache in their groin, over the lateral hip, or deep in their buttock region. Acetabular labral tears often cause a feeling of the leg "catching" or "clicking" in the hip socket as you move it. It may also feel like the hip is locking up.)
Mine was the later ^^
In April of 2016 I had surgery to repair the tear, bone spur removal, foreign object removal & cut tendon sheath. It went well. I had good range post surgery. I wore a hip brace, used crutches, had a leg bender machine I had to sit at for 4 hr a day & PT 2 days a week. and I took the summer off from my cleaning jobs to let my hip heal. I truly felt like an old person...I hobbled around a lot...Swung my leg to the right and had no endurance.
I felt like I was healing well...it's a tricky thing to know if you are healing well. In Oct I felt like I was still in pain...so I had a cortisone shot...which did nothing :(
In December 2016 I received a letter from Spectrum Health letting me know my Dr left and moved to Texas..uuggg! Got another Cortisone shot in March...hoping for some relief....none!!! It's a constant pain...it's not sharp...I wake up with this pain in the morning. Motrin 800 doesn't seem to help.
I got another MRI to see what is going on and why sooo much pain still. Results- labral tear and more Arthritis has formed...are you kidding me?!?!
Today....
Went to see my new Dr... Dr Wierks....he is on East Paris in GR. After a few x-rays, an exam and lots of questions...He said my biggest issue is the arthritis that is forming.
The only solution is Total Hip replacement!! After chatting with Dr Wierks, we have decided to proceed with pursuing Hip replacement
I have scheduled an appt to have surgery on May 31. I am anxiously nervous about proceeding. I'm anxious to be out of pain and have a good quality of life. I'm nervous about a long term hip replacement and it's longevity. I'm nervous about someone drilling into my femur and placing a foreign object in it. I'm nervous that I'm not even 50 and having a major surgery.
I feel too young to have to have new parts...I'm not even hard on my old parts..haha.
That sums up my hip story! Thanks for sticking it out to the end!
