Kent City Homecoming '09
The festivities started with dress-up days on Monday-Friday. Having boys, they weren't too excited about dressing up but they did participate some of the days. Then of course, they have a fun day on Friday with class competitions.... Here are a few pictures of Tyler competing....a spoon/ball relay, the caterpillar and the hula hoop.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any of these....so I didn't get any pictures of Troy competing =(!!

We attended the Football game after eating at the Alumni Dinner...shocking as it was...they WON! 42-6...must have been since we attended!

Saturday Night Homecoming Dance

Tyler and his date...Emily Obenauf

here he is putting on the corsage.

One last picture before they headed to Applebee's for dinner.

This is a picture Emily had on her FB...I thought it was fitting to post this pictures! Aren't they cute? The girl on the left is Shelbie Williams, Emily is in the middle and Tyler on the right. The picture was taken at Dad & Mom's house.

It's That Time!....

I made chili for the first time this fall!
I grew up in a house of no soup or chili. My mom just never made it...I have to admit, I think it was because my dad doesn't like either one very well. I should say DIDN'T..I think in his older years he has grown to enjoy soups & chili!

So needless to say...I'm not very good at making either..they kinda scare me! I know everyone says how easy they are to make ....but if you aren't comfortable making it...it's not easy!

So, after a few attempts last year at Chili....I think I have a recipe that we like. We (or should I say I'm) aren't big Tomato fans...so you won't find tomatoes here....but you can easily add them if you like them...yuck!

**CHILI**

1+ lbs of Burger (fried & drained)
can also add onion and/or green pepper

1can kidney beans-drained
1can black beans-drained
1can chili beans-undrained
1can Hormel chili with beans (or spartan or meijers...)
2 15oz cans tomato sauce (or one larger)
1/3 c. milk
1 T chili powder (Penzeys Chili 9000 is the best!!)
1/2c. sugar
ketchup to make your own consistency

Mix together in crock-pot and simmer at least one hour..or longer, on low. Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~
For you KC area readers, Penzeys is on Alpine near Toys R us...if you haven't been there..GO! It's a must! They have a lot of different spices and mixes and they are awesome We especially like Northwoods!
BTW...last year I purchased a variety of spices (cocoa, Northwoods, pepper, cinnamon...) for my step-mom and mother-in-law for Christmas presents. They both bake a lot and it's a gift they don't have to dust or burn! So, If you are buying for a baker or just for someone that likes their food to taste good!
Another thing that I like about it is they have no 'fillers' and it's not really much more expensive than buying it in the grocery store..and some stuff is even cheaper! AND if you sign up for their mailing list they send you a catalogue every quarter that is filled with recipes and usually has a coupon on the front for a free spice....WOW!!
I feel like Will Mays!
Oops!
So, I have had some embarrassing moments but this takes the cake or shall I say pie!!!
I was at a ladies house, that wanted me to clean for her. We were talking and discussing cleaning details. We were looking at her new vacuum and she knelt down to show me something and I sat down on her couch. That's were the oops comes in!
Unbeknownst to me, her husband had set his peach pie down on the couch...you guessed it..bulls eye..right on the pie! Stuck all over my fanny! NICE...real nice! Crust, sticky peach pie goo, peaches....
Nice impression....huh! And to make matters worse, Steve graduated with the lady! Well, we had a good laugh....I couldn't cry at that point!
It's a good thing, to have a good belly laugh a day! I found this on the internet...."Laughing 100 to 200 times per day is the cardiovascular equivalent of rowing for 10 minutes," ...I guess I'd rather laugh!
Laugh at yourself today!
We Were There!...
On Monday we went to Artprize in downtown Grand Rapids. I have to admit I'm not much of an "art" person. I don't usually see what the artist was trying to convey. You can say...I'm art challenged!
On a spur of the moment, the boys and I headed down to see some of the sights...after only a few trips around the block we parked and set out to see some of the sights. I wanted them to see the Moose. We found it and were also on TV.
Here is the News clip! Only Trent and I made it in the clip and then just me after more of the Artist interview. Keep your eye on it...we aren't there long! It's obviously me...I 'm carrying Trent's crutches! Enjoy!
(Many thanks to my wonderful husband who went to great lengths to help me get this posted!)
Another First!....
Well, I went to see the surgeon today. Surprise, he said I needed my Gall bladder out!
I scheduled my outpatient Surgery for October 28th. I'm gonna see if I can get a video of the procedure for Tod's viewing. Maybe, they will let me bring home my Gall bladder or at least the stones??
I've never had a surgery..but they assured me I would be in good hands. It will most likely be Laparoscopic Surgery. And the best news is...the Doctor is not 22!
My largest stone is 1.7cm, just in case anyone wants to know!
And this is just because I thought it was funny! It says....Now I know why they call it ICU!
Adios...
